The summer is coming to an end and fall is just around the corner! September is a typically a busy month for most people, coming back to town from their summer holidays, the kids going back to school and real estate getting back on track. Most homes on the market are taking longer than previously to sell and bidding wars seem to be non-existent now. Prices haven’t really dropped on average; however, I am seeing some reductions in list prices. Although interest rates are higher, this is the best time to buy a home. As a buyer in this market, you have more inventory to choose from, less pressure to decide as quickly as before and you will not need to go over asking in most cases. If you haven’t already done so, get your pre-approval started right away before the interest rates go up again.
Home Maintenance Tips for the Fall
Here are few tips to help get your home ready for the season!
Gutters – Make sure your gutters are not clogged with leaves and debris. You will want your eavestroughs to be clear for water to flow through your downspouts and away from your home. Consider investing in gutter guards or screens.
HVAC Equipment – You will likely start turning on the heat as the evenings get cooler. Hire a professional to inspect and service your furnace, hot water tank and HRV unit to make sure they are running properly. Remember to replace your furnace filter every 2 months.
Lawn Care – Cooler temperatures and more rainfall makes the fall season a great time to fertilizer your lawn and seed any patches. Laying sod is also a great option for quicker results.
Exterior Inspection – Check your vents, siding, any open spaces under your deck or porch for vermin and nests. Make sure there no openings into your home through any cracks or vents. Consider hiring a pest control professional to inspect your home and seal off any access points.
